Taylor Tomlinson Detroit reviews
Journey still brings it!
Taylor was amazing, theatre experience was not.
Theatre: parking was SUPER easy, show started at 9:30 and we arrived at 9:00 and there was parking across the street for $15. The line to get inside was AROUND the block and then some. I don’t know what time doors opened but we didn’t get inside until well after 9:45, security was quick. We stood in a long line for the bathroom and then a long line for the bar. There were a ton of bars, (I understand staffing is awful for everyone right now, don’t @ me) but each bar only had two people working at them, and the menu for the bar isn’t posted in large print on the walls, it’s on a small laminated card when you get up to the counter, which made it extremely slow and almost as if they had not anticipated that all 2000 seats would get alcohol for the 930 show. On top of that, they did not announce to anyone (overhead speakers maybe?) that the show was starting, so while we were in line at the bar, we could see on the TV monitor that the opening act was well into his set. I don’t actually know what time he started. So because the show had started already, we then stood in another line to be individually seated in the dark by a theatre attendant which took a lot of time.
Taylor: I have to start by saying that I was worried her jokes would be all the same stuff from her recently released Netflix special. Everything was new material. So that was exciting. Her set was over an hour long and she went through her jokes, very fast, so you are constantly being entertained. And her interactions with the crowd are amazing. People around us were laughing so hard they were crying. It was a really really good show, I might’ve enjoyed her more than Ali Wong, and that’s a compliment.
It was great until it wasn't
We were so excited to see Taylor because she is so great. However, she ending up getting upset with the audience and said things like, "I may not come back here." "You guys are so strange tonight." The audio in the beginning said to only clap and laugh, no outbursts. One guy said, "I love you Taylor" two times and the second time she was visibly upset, stopped the show and said, "Last time when I was in Raleigh we had a person escorted out of here." I didn't think her behavior was warranted, it was a sold out show and I don't think we should have been called out by the behavior of one person, who was not behaving that bad anyway.
